Virtue and Moir

Virtue and Moir are a champion Canadian ice dancing team. Tessa Virtue (1989-…) and Scott Moir (1987-…) won the gold medal in ice dancing at the 2010 and 2018 Winter Olympic Games. Their total score in the 2018 games set a world record. Virtue and Moir were the first North American ice dancers to win the Olympic gold medal. They also skated on the Canadian team that won the gold medal in team figure skating at the 2018 Olympics. Both they and the Canadian team won silver medals at the 2014 games. Virtue and Moir won the ice dancing World Championships in 2010, 2012, and 2017. They also won the Canadian National Skating Championships eight times, in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017, and 2018.

Tessa Virtue was born in London, Ontario, on May 17, 1989. Scott Moir was born in London, Ontario, on Sept. 2, 1987. The pair started skating individually at the same skating club and soon formed an informal partnership. They began competing officially as partners by 1998. Virtue and Moir won the junior competition at the Canadian National Skating Championships in 2004 and the World Junior Championships in 2006. In the 2004-2005 season, the team moved up to some senior-level events while still skating in some junior events. In the 2006-2007 season, they moved permanently to the senior level. In 2008, the team won the silver medal in ice dancing at the World Figure Skating Championships.

Virtue and Moir took a break from the sport after the 2014 Olympics. They returned to ice dancing competition in 2016, winning the gold medal at the Autumn Classic International, a major international skating competition in Montreal. Their gold medal in ice dancing at the 2018 Olympics made them the most decorated figure skaters in Olympic history. Virtue and Moir announced their retirement from ice dancing in 2019.
