Mishustin, Mikhail << mih SHOO stihn, mih kah EEL >> (1966-…), became the prime minister of Russia in January 2020. Mishustin replaced Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, who resigned. Before becoming Russia’s head of government, Mishustin had led the Russian Federal Tax Service since 2010.

Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin was born on March 3, 1966, in Moscow, the Russian capital. In 1989, he received a degree in systems engineering from the Moscow Machine Tool Institute (now the Moscow State Technological University—Stankin). Mishustin later earned a Ph.D. in economics from the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics. From 1992 to 1998, he held various positions at the International Computer Club, a non-profit public organization that promoted computer and technology development in Russia.

From 1998 to 2008, Mishustin held high-ranking government positions at federal tax, real estate, and economic management agencies. In 2008, he became the head of a private investment fund. In 2010, he returned to government service to lead the Federal Tax Service, where he digitized (computerized) and improved the efficiency of the Russian tax system.
