He races Indy cars, which have a single seat, an open cockpit, and open wheels—that is, wheels positioned outside the body of the car. Power won the 2018 Indianapolis 500, the most famous race in the annual IndyCar Series (now NTT IndyCar Series). He became the first Australian to win the Indianapolis 500.
In 2014, Power won the IndyCar Series championship. He finished second in the series in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2016. The NTT IndyCar Series championship is awarded to the driver who accumulates the most points during a spring-to-autumn schedule of races, primarily held in North America.
