Robbie, Margot

Robbie, Margot (1990-…), is an Australian motion-picture actress. She gained fame playing the antihero Harley Quinn in the “Suicide Squad” film series, which began in 2016. An antihero is a main character lacking typical heroic qualities. The “Suicide Squad” movies are based on comic books published by DC Comics.

Margot Elise Robbie was born on July 2, 1990, in Dalby, Queensland, Australia. She grew up on a farm in the Gold Coast area in Queensland before moving to Melbourne, Victoria, in 2007. Robbie began her acting career as a teenager. From 2008 to 2011, she regularly appeared on the long-running Australian soap opera “Neighbours.”

In 2011, Robbie moved to the United States and began acting in American productions. She achieved international recognition after co-starring with the American actor Leonardo DiCaprio in the film The Wolf of Wall Street (2013). She won critical praise for her portrayal of the young wife of a Wall Street stockbroker and swindler.

Over the next few years, Robbie starred in several high-profile films, including Focus (2015) and The Legend of Tarzan (2016). Robbie played the American figure skater Tonya Harding in I, Tonya (2018). She played Queen Elizabeth I in Mary, Queen of Scots (also 2018). Robbie’s other movies include Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Bombshell (both 2019), Birds of Prey (2020), The Suicide Squad (2021), Babylon (2022), and Asteroid City and Barbie (both 2023).

In 2014, Robbie and several of her friends cofounded LuckyChap Entertainment, a media production company focused on stories by and about women.
