St. Louis City SC is a professional soccer team in the United States. SC stands for soccer club. St. Louis City SC competes in the Western Conference of Major League Soccer (MLS), the top soccer league in the United States and Canada. The team plays its home games at CityPark in St. Louis, Missouri.
St. Louis was awarded an MLS expansion team in 2019. The team was given the name St. Louis City SC and played its first MLS game in February 2023. The team’s inaugural roster included goalkeeper Roman Bürki of Switzerland and forward João Klauss of Brazil. In its first season, St. Louis had the best record in the Western Conference and advanced to the MLS Cup playoffs. St. Louis had a previous team, St. Louis FC, that competed from 2015 through 2020 in the United Soccer League (USL, later called USL Championship). FC stands for football club. Soccer is called football in much of the world. USL Championship is a second-tier minor league just below MLS.
