Charterhouse is a leading English public school. It was founded in London for poor boys in 1611 by Thomas Sutton, a wealthy merchant. Today, the school is located near Godalming in Surrey. Students pay fees, but need- and merit-based scholarships are available. The school has about 700 pupils, most of whom are boarders.
