Church Army is a missionary and evangelistic organization within the Anglican church. The Church Army works with people beyond the normal reach of the church. It seeks to provide for social and spiritual needs by engaging in outreach projects in troubled communities, thus bringing hope where there often is despair. Church Army evangelists usually are ministers of the Anglican church. They undertake a formal program of training before beginning work in the Church Army.
The Anglican clergyman Wilson Carlile founded the Church Army in England in 1882. Today, the organization is active throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland and in Africa, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United States, and other places.
