Davis, Henry Gassaway (1823-1916), was the Democratic candidate for Vice President of the United States in 1904. He and presidential candidate Alton B. Parker lost to President Theodore Roosevelt and Charles W. Fairbanks. Davis, at the age of 80, was the oldest person ever chosen to run for Vice President. Davis served as a United States senator from West Virginia from 1871 to 1883. He was born in Woodstock, Maryland.
