American Medical Association (AMA) is a professional society of physicians. Its purpose is “to promote the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health.” The association’s membership includes physicians, resident physicians, and medical students.
The AMA publishes a weekly scientific journal, JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association; a weekly newspaper, American Medical News; monthly specialty journals; and other publications on medical subjects. The AMA was founded in 1847. Its headquarters are in Chicago.
