Duke, James Buchanan

Duke, James Buchanan (1856-1925), an American businessman and philanthropist, organized the American Tobacco Company in 1890. He set up a trust fund called the Duke Endowment in 1924. He also gave funds to schools, hospitals, orphanages, and the Methodist Church. He was born on Dec. 23, 1856, near Durham, North Carolina. He died on Oct. 10, 1925.
