Fairbanks, Douglas, Jr.

Fairbanks, Douglas, Jr. (1909-2000), was an American motion-picture actor. His father was Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., a star of silent films. Fairbanks performed in a variety of roles, ranging from romantic heroes to troubled weaklings. His best-known movies include The Prisoner of Zenda (1937) and Gunga Din (1939). He also made several romantic adventure films in the style of his father. They include The Corsican Brothers (1941), Sinbad the Sailor (1947), and The Fighting O’Flynn (1949).

Douglas Elton Fairbanks, Jr., was born on Dec. 9, 1909, in New York City. He made his movie debut in 1923 and retired in the early 1950’s. His autobiography, The Salad Days (1988), describes his life to the age of 30. He died on May 7, 2000.
