Favre << fahrv >>, Brett (1969-…), ranks among the greatest quarterbacks in National Football League (NFL) history. Favre, who played most of his career with the Green Bay Packers, was noted for guiding his team to last-minute victories through dramatic scoring drives.

During his NFL career, Favre set many passing records, since broken. He was the first player in NFL history to pass for at least 3,000 yards in 10 consecutive seasons. He still holds the NFL record for consecutive games started (297). Favre was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player for the 1995, 1996, and 1997 seasons. He helped lead the Packers to victory in the 1997 Super Bowl. Favre was voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016.

Brett Lorenzo Favre was born on Oct. 10, 1969, in Gulfport, Mississippi. He was a star quarterback at the University of Southern Mississippi from 1987 to 1990. Favre was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in 1991 and played two games for Atlanta before being traded to Green Bay in 1992. Green Bay traded him to the New York Jets in 2008. Favre played for the Minnesota Vikings in 2009 and 2010 before retiring.

Favre became active in charity work both in Green Bay and in Mississippi, directing much of his public service toward helping disadvantaged young people. Favre and his mother, Bonita, and sportswriter Chris Havel are coauthors of an illustrated account of the quarterback’s personal life and football career called Favre (2004).
