Fenech, Jeffrey

Fenech, Jeffrey (1964-…), became the first Australian boxer to win three world titles. In 1985, he won the International Boxing Federation world bantamweight title. In 1987, he won the World Boxing Council super bantamweight title. In 1988, Fenech won the World Boxing Council featherweight championship.

Fenech was born on May 28, 1964, in the Sydney suburb of Marrickville. He represented Australia at the 1984 Olympic Games but did not win a medal. In 1986, Fenech knocked out Steve McCrory, the American who had won the gold medal in the flyweight class at the Olympics. Fenech retired in 1996 with a record of 28 victories, 3 losses, and 1 draw. He came out of retirement briefly in 2008, fighting one bout in which he defeated Azumah Nelson of Ghana.
