Flag of truce is a plain white flag. Such a flag might be used, for example, by opposing sides on a battlefield when they want to discuss peace terms. It also is used to arrange for a prisoner exchange or for wounded soldiers to be rescued. Both sides stop fighting while their leaders discuss terms of the truce. The flag of truce usually is recognized by national armed forces.
