Fort Leonard Wood

Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, is the home of the United States Army’s Engineer School, its Military Police School, and its Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear School. The fort covers about 63,000 acres (25,500 hectares) and lies in the Mark Twain National Forest, 135 miles (215 kilometers) southwest of St. Louis, Missouri. The post was established in 1940 and named for Major General Leonard Wood, who was Army chief of staff from 1910 to 1914. Fort Leonard Wood provides basic and advanced training for Army recruits in the Midwestern United States.
