Annual is a plant that grows, blossoms, produces seed, and dies within one growing season. Plants called biennials require two growing seasons to complete their life cycles. Other plants, called perennials, can live for many years. Many garden vegetables and flowers are annuals. Such plants, which include beans, peas, petunias, squash, and zinnias, must be raised from seed each year.
