Geodetic center of North America

Geodetic, << `jee` uh DEHT ihk, >> center of North America is located at the Meades Ranch Triangulation Station in Osborne County, Kansas. It serves as the point of origin for all governmental mapping in the United States (except Hawaii), Canada, and Mexico. The United States Coast and Geodetic Survey chose Meades Ranch as the geodetic center of the United States in 1901. This point was chosen because of its central location. Meades Ranch became the geodetic center of North America in 1913, after Canada and Mexico also adopted it.
