Goodwill Industries are nonprofit organizations that provide job training, employment services, and other work-related programs for people with disabilities and social disadvantages. The organizations help people overcome barriers to employment and become independent members of their communities. Goodwill Industries raise funds for their services through the sale of clothing and household items donated by the public. They receive additional funds through contracts with government agencies and private businesses. Each Goodwill organization is governed by a local volunteer board of directors and operated by a professional staff. There are numerous local Goodwill Industries throughout the United States and Canada, and many affiliated groups in other nations. Goodwill was founded in 1902. The international organization is Goodwill Industries International, Inc.
