Green, Theodore Francis (1867-1966), was a Democratic United States senator from Rhode Island. He served in the Senate from 1937 until he retired in 1961 at the age of 93.
Green strongly supported the policies of Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman. He was chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee from 1957 to 1959. Green entered politics as a member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives in 1907. He was elected governor of Rhode Island in 1932, and reelected in 1934. Led by Green, the Democrats gained full control of the state government in 1935. They had not held control since before the American Civil War (1861-1865). Green was born on Oct. 2, 1867, in Providence, Rhode Island. He died on May 19, 1966.
