Heritage Foundation is a research and educational institution that formulates and promotes conservative public policies. The principles of the foundation include the promotion of free enterprise, reduction of government regulation, lower taxes, decreased government size and expense, homeland security, and a strong national defense.
The Heritage Foundation has a large staff, including former members of Congress and presidential Cabinets, as well as many scholars. The foundation publishes books, reports, and articles to provide commentary on policy issues. It also lobbies government officials at all levels and sponsors lectures and conferences.
Since its founding in 1973 by two former congressional aides, the Heritage Foundation has been funded by individuals, corporations, and other foundations. Prominent donors have included the brewer Joseph Coors and the publisher Richard Mellon Scaife. The foundation is based in Washington D.C.
