Huntington, Samuel (1731-1796), was a Connecticut signer of the Declaration of Independence. He also represented Connecticut in the Continental Congress from 1776 to 1781, serving as president of the congress from 1779 to 1781.
Huntington also was a member of Connecticut’s delegation to the Congress of the Confederation from 1781 to 1784. In 1784, he was appointed chief justice of the superior court of Connecticut. Huntington served as governor of Connecticut from 1786 to 1796. He was born on July 3, 1731, in Windham, Connecticut. He died on Jan. 5, 1796.
