International Air Transport Association (IATA) is an organization of the world’s airlines. The IATA promotes safe, regular, and economical air transport. It also fosters air commerce and studies the problems connected with it. Active membership in IATA is open to airlines operating international services. Airlines operating only domestic services may qualify for associate membership. The IATA was founded in 1945. It has headquarters in Montreal, Canada, and in Geneva, Switzerland.
