Arizona, University of, is a state-supported institution in Tucson, Arizona. The University of Arizona was chartered in 1885 and opened in 1891. The university’s Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, Steward Observatory, and astronomy department operate several observatories. The University Museum of Art includes the Samuel H. Kress Collection of Renaissance paintings and the C. Leonard Pfeiffer Collection of contemporary American art. The school’s athletic teams are called the Wildcats.
