Iron Curtain is a phrase made popular by the British statesman Winston Churchill in the 1940’s. The phrase referred to the Soviet Union’s isolation policy after World War II (1939-1945). The Soviet Union set up trade barriers and a rigid censorship that cut off the country and its Eastern European “satellite” countries from the rest of the world.
