Jogues, Saint Isaac

Jogues, << zhawg, >> Saint Isaac (1607-1646), was a Jesuit missionary who worked among the Huron First Nation in Canada. He was born on Jan. 10, 1607, in Orleans, France, and went to Canada after he was ordained in 1636. The Iroquois captured him in 1642, but he escaped. In 1646, Jogues led a peace delegation to the Iroquois. He returned with a second delegation later the same year, and the Iroquois took him prisoner and killed him on Oct. 18, 1646. Jogues was canonized (made a saint) in 1930.
