Kellogg, W. K.

Kellogg, W. K. (1860-1951), was an American cereal manufacturer. He worked for many years for his brother, who ran a sanitarium (place for treating the sick) in Battle Creek, Michigan. While there, W. K. Kellogg experimented with a new breakfast food called “corn flakes” and recognized its sales potential. In 1906, Kellogg organized a cereal company. He skillfully used advertising and his trademark signature to make the company successful.

Will Keith Kellogg was born on April 7, 1860, in Battle Creek. He later made substantial gifts to his birthplace. In 1930, he established the Kellogg Foundation (see Kellogg Foundation ). He died on Oct. 6, 1951.
