Kenai Fjords National Park

Kenai Fjords National Park lies in south-central Alaska. The park is named for fiords (long, narrow inlets of the sea) that cut into its coastline on the Gulf of Alaska. The fiords area features forests, deep valleys, rugged cliffs, and many sea animals. The park includes part of the vast Harding Icefield, one of the largest icefields in the United States. Kenai Fjords was established as a national monument in 1978. It became a national park in 1980. For its area, see National Park System (table: National parks) .
