Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, is the headquarters of the Air Combat Command (ACC) of the United States Air Force. The ACC, which was created in an Air Force reorganization in June 1992, provides combat forces for joint (interservice) commands in wartime. In 2010, the government combined Langley Air Force Base with the nearby Fort Eustis, creating Joint Base Langley-Eustis.
Langley covers about 2,900 acres (1,200 hectares) north of Hampton, Virginia. The base was established in 1916. It was named for Samuel Pierpont Langley, an early aviation scientist (see Langley, Samuel Pierpont ).
