Lapwing is a group of crested birds that live around the world. The lapwing’s name comes from the awkward way it flaps its wings as it flies. The northern lapwing is also called a peewit because of its shrill, wailing cry. The bird has a bronze-green back and a blue-black throat and breast. Its crest is long and pointed. When the lapwing’s nest is threatened, it limps and pretends to be hurt and lures its enemies away.
