Lawry, William

Lawry, William (1937-…), an Australian cricketer, captained Australia in 26 Test matches and played a total of 67 Test matches between 1961 and 1971. A left-hand opening batsman, Lawry became one of the highest run scorers in Australian cricket. He amassed a total of 5,234 runs, averaging 47.15 runs in 123 Test innings. He scored 13 centuries. His highest Test scores were 210 against the West Indies in 1965 and 205 against the West Indies in 1968-1969. Lawry retired from Test cricket in 1971. Lawry played 99 first class matches for the state of Victoria, before retiring from all first class cricket in 1972. William Morris Lawry was born on Feb. 11, 1937, in Melbourne, Victoria.
