Alaska, University of

Alaska, University of, is a state-supported system of higher education. The system includes three multicampus universities, community colleges, and a network of services for rural Alaska. The system includes the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), which, in addition to the Anchorage campus, includes Kenai Peninsula College, Kodiak College, Matanuska-Susitna College, and Prince William Sound College. The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) includes the campuses of Bristol Bay, Chukchi, Fairbanks, Interior Alaska, Kuskokwim, and Northwest, and the Community and Technical College. The University of Alaska Southeast has campuses in Juneau, Ketchikan, and Sitka. The university was founded in 1917 as the Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines in Fairbanks. It was renamed the University of Alaska in 1935.
