Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.) is a worldwide organization of men and women who help each other solve their common problem of alcoholism. They also offer to share their recovery experiences with others who have a drinking problem and want to do something about it. The fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous was founded in 1935. It has local groups throughout the United States, Canada, and numerous other countries. The people in each group meet to share their problems and experiences. A.A. is not a medical or religious organization. It is concerned only with the personal recovery and continued sobriety of individual alcoholics who turn to A.A. for help. The General Service Office, in New York City, is the center of A.A. activities. See also Al-Anon.
