Amberjack

Amberjack is a large, fast-swimming game fish found in warm and tropical oceans. People who fish for sport prize the amberjack for its fierce fighting ability when hooked. Amberjacks have a streamlined body and a sharply forked tail. They are variously colored. Some species have a brownish, gray-green, or blue back. Some have silvery sides and deeply colored fins.

There are about a dozen species (kinds) of amberjacks. The largest species is the greater amberjack. It may grow more than 6 feet (1.8 meters) in length and may weigh more than 175 pounds (80 kilograms). It lives in tropical seas throughout the world. A species of amberjack called the yellowtail has a bright yellow tail and a yellowish stripe along the side of the body. It lives in coastal areas of the Pacific Ocean.
