AMVETS is an organization of veterans who have served honorably in the United States military. It was founded in 1944 during World War II and chartered by Congress in 1947. Its major aims are to promote world peace, to preserve the American way of life, and to help veterans help themselves. Its headquarters are in Lanham, Maryland.
