Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia, provides military education for selected officers of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. The college also instructs officers from other nations and select U.S. civilians working for federal agencies. Courses emphasize cooperation among branches of the U.S. military, the militaries of other nations, and nonmilitary agencies in the planning and conduct of warfare. The college also offers courses on homeland security and on joint, multinational, and interagency planning.
The college is part of the U.S. Department of Defense’s National Defense University. It was established as the Armed Forces Staff College in 1946 by General Dwight D. Eisenhower and Admiral Chester W. Nimitz.
