Baby’s-breath, also spelled babies’-breath, is a group of plants with many tiny starlike flowers. There are dozens of species (kinds) of baby’s-breath. They are often found in dry, open places. The most common cultivated types are grown as annuals or perennials and have white or pink flowers. One of the best-known species is called simply baby’s-breath. It is a perennial plant that grows from about 2 to 4 feet (60 to 120 centimeters) tall and has widely branching stems. Another common species is called annual baby’s-breath, or showy baby’s-breath. It grows about 11/2 to 2 feet (45 to 60 centimeters) tall. Florists often use these species among the larger flowers in bouquets for a delicate effect.
