Basil

Basil, << BAZ uhl or BAY zuhl, >> is an annual herb used for seasoning food. The common basil, also called sweet basil, has tooth-edged leaves and small, purplish-white flowers. It grows about 1 foot (30 centimeters) tall. Many other species of basil are grown throughout the world. People use basil leaves in soups, salads, and meats. Basil can be grown from seed. The stalks can be cut and dried for use in the winter.
