Bayberry, << BAY `behr` ee, >> is a North American shrub closely related to the wax myrtle. It grows chiefly in coastal regions from Nova Scotia to North Carolina. Its berries are coated with a fragrant green wax that is used to make candles. Bayberry is also the name of a tree that grows in the West Indies. Manufacturers boil and use its leaves in making bay rum and cosmetics.
