Benét, << beh NAY, >> Laura (1884-1979), was an American author best known for her children’s books. Benét wrote biographies, poetry, and fiction for children and also edited many anthologies of children’s literature. Perhaps her best-known novel is The Hidden Valley (1938). Many of her poems were collected in In Love with Time (1959). Her biographical subjects included the writers Edgar Allan Poe, Percy Shelley, Washington Irving, and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Her brothers were the noted authors Stephen Vincent Benét and William Rose Benét.
Benét was born in New York City on June 13, 1884. She died on Feb. 17, 1979.
