Bonfils, Frederick Gilmer

Bonfils, << BON fihlz, >> Frederick Gilmer (1860-1933), was an American newspaper editor who became famous for sensational presentation of news. In 1895, he and Harry H. Tammen bought The Denver Post for $12,500. They increased the paper’s circulation by using such devices as red banner headlines. Bonfils and Tammen also exposed the Teapot Dome scandal of the 1920’s (see Teapot Dome ).

Bonfils was born on Dec. 31, 1860, in Troy, Missouri. He died on Feb. 2, 1933.
