Border collie is a breed of dog commonly used to herd sheep. It received its name because it originated near the border between England and Scotland in the 1700’s. The dog weighs 30 to 50 pounds (14 to 23 kilograms) and grows 18 to 22 inches (45 to 56 centimeters) high. Its thick coat is usually black with white markings on the face, neck, legs, and tail. Border collies are intelligent, athletic dogs. They make loyal, affectionate pets but need much exercise and attention.
