Bracknell Forest (pop. 124,607), in eastern Berkshire, England, became a unitary authority (local government area) in 1998. It is in the Berkshire region of England, which lies just southwest of London. Bracknell Forest has many wooded areas and moors, open areas covered chiefly with grasses and the low shrubs called heather. Traditional industries include brick making and market gardening. A variety of other industries, including engineering and electronics, are in the new town (government-planned community) of Bracknell. The United Kingdom Meteorological Office has its headquarters in Bracknell. See also Berkshire.
