Brazilwood, also called pernambuco, is a dyewood tree of Brazil. It may grow over 100 feet (30 meters) high. When cut, its wood is bright orange to orange-red. It becomes more reddish when dry. Brazilwood was once an important source of dye. But so many Brazilwood trees have been cut down that they are in danger of dying out completely. Other dyewood trees of Brazil may also be called Brazilwood.
