Brice, Fanny

Brice, Fanny (1891-1951), was an American comedienne and singer in musical comedy and on radio. From 1910 to the mid-1930’s, Brice starred in many musical revues. She became popular for her comic routines in which she used a Yiddish accent. Brice also gained fame for her moving performance of the emotional love song “My Man,” which she introduced in the Ziegfeld Follies of 1921. From 1936 until her death on May 29, 1951, Brice performed on radio, playing a 7-year-old brat named Baby Snooks. Brice was born on Oct. 29, 1891, in New York City. Her given and family name was Fannie Borach. Her comic singing in the Ziegfeld Follies of 1910 made her a star. Brice’s life was adapted into the popular musical comedy Funny Girl (1964), which was made into a motion picture in 1968. A sequel to the film was released as Funny Lady in 1975.
