Broome, David

Broome, David (1940-…), is one of the United Kingdom’s finest professional show jumpers. While still an amateur, he won two Olympic bronze medals, the first in Rome in 1960 and the second in Mexico City in 1968. He set a record by winning the King George V Gold Cup six times and was European Show Jumping Champion three times. He won the World Show Jumping Championship on the horse Beethoven in La Baule, France, in 1970. Broome also rode such famous horses as Mister Softee, Sunsalve, Sportsman, and Philco.

David McPherson Broome was born on March 1, 1940, in Cardiff and educated in Monmouth, Wales. He wrote Jump-Off (1971) and coauthored Horsemanship (1983).
