Buck Island Reef National Monument includes an island and the coral reef around it, near the island of St. Croix in the Virgin Islands. The monument, established in 1961 and expanded in 2001, preserves one of the finest marine gardens in the Caribbean Sea. The island has a nature trail and is home to many birds and sea turtles. The reef area includes an underwater trail that skin divers may follow to view an array of tropical fish and coral formations. For the area of the monument, see National Park System (table: National monuments).
