Bunbury (pop. 75,196) is a city on Geographe Bay in Western Australia. It lies about 115 miles (185 kilometers) south of Perth. The city is an important regional center and port for the southwestern part of the state. Farming in the surrounding districts provides dairy products, fruit, wheat, and wool. People in Bunbury work in a superphosphate factory, an ilmenite plant, and mining. Bunbury became a town in 1841 and was proclaimed a city in 1979.
