Caledonia

Caledonia, << `kal` ih DOH nee uh, >> is the ancient Roman name for northeast Scotland. Much later, it became a poetic name for all Scotland. The Roman general Agricola invaded Caledonia three times between A.D. 80 and 84. The first Caledonians were a single Highland tribe. Later, all the tribes of northeast Scotland became known together as Caledonians. The Romans called the Caledonians Picts. Eventually, this name replaced Caledonians.
