Camomile, << KAM uh myl or KAM uh meel, >> is a group of small plants that are sometimes used in folk medicine. The name is often spelled chamomile. The most commonly cultivated camomile grows in the eastern and central regions of the United States, where it was brought from Europe. It is called the common, or corn, camomile, and sometimes the English, or Roman, camomile. It is a perennial, a plant that lives for more than one growing season. It grows about 12 inches (30 centimeters) high and has a slender, trailing stem and many branches. The flowers look much like daisies. The flowers and leaves smell sweet but taste bitter. German camomile may grow as high as 2 feet (61 centimeters). Camomile is a popular herbal tea. It also has various uses in traditional medicine.
