Canterbury bell is a type of flowering plant with blue, pink, purple, or white bell-shaped flowers. The plants grow as tall as 3 feet (91 centimeters). The flowers measure 2 to 3 inches (5 to 8 centimeters) long and are widely spaced on a single, flowering stem. Canterbury bells have hairy, oval leaves. The leaves at the base of the plant grow up to 10 inches (25 centimeters) long. The leaves on the flowering stem are shorter.
Canterbury bells are biennials–that is, they live for two years and then die. They do not flower until the second summer. They grow wild in woods and stony places, and they are also grown in gardens. Canterbury bells are native to southern Europe.
